History , rides again. Good job nevada rail museum. Pat yourself on the back.

@emdB67 Yes, It is good to see at least one is still around. It had to take at lot of love and hard work to get back to running order, and in good nick.

@Ken69a Queensland Railways also had McKeens – all scrapped. But then again, almost all the ones that ran in the US were scrapped too – So it’s fantastic to see this rare survivor restored and running.

@emdB67 Sad thing is, our lot, (Vic Rail). Srcapped them.

Great to see the McKeen running. Gives me something of an idea how it must have looked when two of them ran here in VIctoria, Australia.

Einmaliges Video!

That is one cool living antique! If it had a mouth, it could tell you lots of stories.

@spfilms4449: Nice to see you share the frame with 2 McKeen cars.

at 3:20 the guy to the right is me =]

I was not yet born neither when this motorcar nor when BUDD streamlined railcars entered service. I still dream on riding these rail vehicles. Fortunately thanks to this video my dream has partially become reality. I hope I could ride the motorcar in this video someday, and also If still on service BUDD railcars.

@jedi725: Yup, McKeen #22 was built originally for the V&T.

was this originally built for the virginia & truckee

In his book “Trains in Transition”, Lucius Beebe described the McKeen as “No thing of radiant beauty…”, but I think she’s a grand sight! Thanks very much for posting this; it really made my day. I’ve always loved the McKeen Windsplitter but I’ve never seen any restored, so it’s good to see that there is one somewhere.

That’s a really cool motor car! I love the air whistle!

Amazing. 5*

@modemeyes: #22 is standard gauge, and is 100 years old. This day happened to be its Centennial. McKeens were made between 1905-1917, and there were some narrow gauge ones.

So the McKeen Motor Car runs on a different guage track from the others. How old is it?

Also I forgot to mention in my last comments, Interesting how? they ran this car backwards around the track. They always used to run the steam trains and other stuff in the opposite direction around the track as they were running in this vid.

@CoastStarlight11: Yeah, especially if UP sends Heritage Units or anything else interesting over Donner on my day off!

Dude some day you and me are probably going to meet in person because you keep coming deep with in my territory in Nevada, lol

Dude I almost went to this event but dang it, I had to go to work. I work just a tad bit down the street from the Nevada State RR museum from where you shot this vid.

Looks like it is from buck rogers! Cool thanks for sharing.

@flare40x: The museum couldn’t find a historically correct motor to restore, so they elected to use a Cat Diesel as the powerplant.

Power truck looks original… the engine is a Cat?

Very cool old motorcar mate!
